TRICIA’S VARSITY JACKET [1987]…
‘Varsity jackets are so in right now, don’t you know? Hello, everyone from Alexander Wang to Proenza Schouler has shown them. Sure, they might be all over the high street but those knockoffs ain’t got nothing on this little vintage one.’
Err, just kidding. When I found this little gem of a jacket crammed on a rail at an antique mall in the mid-west a couple weeks ago my family didn’t even look a bit perplexed or seek an explanation. My sister did, however, suppress a gag reflex every time I insisted on putting it on. Whether that was due to her viewing me as a sartorial pariah or the jacket’s musty smell, well… I’ll never know.
I couldn’t bare to leave this item behind so I forked out $12 and left feeling giddy with my purchase. Made from recycled wool, the fabric is so heavy and thick it’ll make you sweat on even the coldest days. The hood unzips to reveal ‘Tricia’, the original owner at the back and the pockets are lined with white leather. It’s cliche and, at the moment, a bit annoyingly trendy but I kind of love this jacket.

whoa nice!!! i got one that’s mostly wool from target for $13 on sale!
That close up of you on the top right is just stunning. I like the look of varsity jackets on others, but I don’t think I’ll be wearing one myself. You gotta have the right style to not look like a college student, and I’m having enough problems already convincing others that I’m older than I look.

oh its super cute!! Even if a bit trendy, I’ve heard the thrift stores are so good in the US, I can’t wait to check them out.
The second photograph in the first row is absolutely stunning– enraptured by your eyes, haha. The jacket looks super comfy/warm, be it a bit cliche. Hope you’ve been having a good weekend!
That’s a great varsity jacket. I keep seeing them at stores and kind of want one.
Great pictures! Now that was a special find for sure and the price was extra special!!
Love varsity jackets! You look great!
That is just so perfect! You’re right about the high street versions – I’ve bought a couple then returned them because they’re just not the same as the originals.
Thanks for your comment

Beautiful pictures.
What an amazing find! That name stitched into the hood is something special. And the portrait shot is gorgeous x
I used to wear my dad’s old college basketball varsity jacket when I was in Jr. High. Never mind that they were NOT having a sartorial ‘moment’ back then and that my dad is the size of the Jolly Green Giant so the jacket SWAM on me…I still wore it.
You have the most beautiful photos! I also now have jacket envy
xx
I had NO idea that varsity jackets were in style! This is why I keep you around Jen – you keep me up on the trends
And does this mean I should call you Trish now?
CATCHER IN THE RYE
Wow, I wish I could’ve found that jacket! I usually go by Patty, but I can go by Tricia if it means having a matching sweater to rock with my new name. xx
I like the picture of the sun and the silhouetted trees.
